Prostae Problems and Coffee

Prostate problems arise not only in older men, actually it has been suggested that the age is dropping, even men as young as 25 have experienced prostate trouble.

However, Prostate disorders are associated mainly with age-related changes in steroid sex hormones.

After the age of 40, testosterone declines, and a testosterone variant called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and the female-associated hormone oestrogen increases. DHT stimulates cell growth and, in turn, prostate enlargement.

Don't panic, it will not cause problems in every men; lifestyle and many other factor play a big role, and there are natural treatment options. We will investigate most of those.

The image shows an older man, drinking coffee ... has that helped him?

Read on to find out about coffee and the prostate.

Note: I don't want to go in lengthy description of the anatomy and physiology of the prostate, that can be found everywhere. I am more interested to report about causes and supporting and preventative treatments, therefore I will offer just a short explanation about the prostate gland itself.

The Prostate Gland

The prostate is an exocrine gland of the male reproductive system. It stores and secretes a clear fluid that constitutes up to one-third of the volume of semen.
* A healthy prostate is slightly larger than a walnut.
* Located in front of the rectum, just below the bladder. It surrounds the urethra, which is part of the problem by constricting urine flow once the prostate starts to enlarge.
* The prostate also contains smooth muscle that helps expel semen; thus, prostate problems can lead to impotence. These muscles can be part of the pain syndrome as well.

The  most common prostate related disorders are:

  1. Prostatitis - Inflammatory infection  - acute bacterial - Antibiotics usually needed
  2. Chronic Prostatitis (CP) -
  3. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a non-malignant enlargement of the prostate gland - chronic
  4. Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS)
  5. Interstitial Cystitis (IC)
  6. Cancer, the most frequent male malignancy.  ( we will not discuss cancer treatment )
  7. and all other associated lower pelvic problems.....

As it is in part a well establish age related problem, it is often called the Men's Menopause or Andropause
